WW1 5th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders Glengarry.

For a cap of its age it has survived in good condition with a number of moth nips to the body and the leather bottom trim just starting to loose its top finish. The nap to the black material is as expected better to the top of the cap, the red and white checkered border has a number of moth nips and faded colour. The 5th battalion cap badge is in nice condition with good detail, it appears to have been on the cap for some time as the checkered colour is much stronger underneath when the side of the badge is lifted slightly as is the nap to the material, i have not removed the badge. The inside lining is complete and in used condition, the round paper label states a size of 6 and 3/4's. The back tail has been removed but the seam has been machine stitched shut as found with many examples that were used at the Front Lines. A nice looking example that has a certain amount of charm and character.
May i add that the cap came with what appears to be a leather carrier, the cap just about fits inside and the central strap will just close shut over the cap, the cover has a good amount of age. This is the way i found it and i've noticed that there is a small number 6 stamped to the side making me wonder if this is indeed some sort of Glengarry leather carry cover and this particular cap being a tad larger than a size 6 making it a tighter fit.
