Vintage Fighting Knife, Dirk, Deakin and Ecroyed, Tiger Works.

A very nice example of a Victorian dirk made by the firm of Deakin and Ecroyed of Sheffield. The blade has good finish with slight water marks to the tip, staining and a couple of areas of rust bleed mainly to the tang areas on both sides, just the slightest of pit marks. One side of the blade when it left the factory had the makers details and from what i can see a military style motif, drums and flags , just below this is a tigers head and word ''Tiger'', this etch can still be made out but is faint. The handle i believe is molded tortoise shell in the form as seen with so called cutlery dirks, there are no chips or cracks, the top of the handle might have had a finishing button of sorts but im not 100% sure as the decoration ends right at the top of the pommel area. Cross guard is a thin nickle type. The period scabbard is made from cardboard that was painted , its in a distressed condition as expected made from board, its lost its bottom chape but still has its metal throat. All in all a decent example and made by a firm that does not come onto the market often. Dirk measures just under 11 inches.
