Early 20th Century Indonesian Bedok Cepot. Java.
Overall length is 14 inches with the blade being just over 8 inches in length and 2.5 inches in depth. The blade has a patterned top with the village name to the end near the hilt, condition is stained with one minor chip to the cutting edge. The hardwood hilt has a nicely carved representation of an animals head with bone inlay for eyes. The hilt has damage from use with a part of the top edge having been repaired and the blade having paper wrapped around the tang for a snugger fit. The wooden scabbard again with a certain amount of damage having lost its top throat and a loose spine. These types of axe are used for household activities from food preparations, wood chopping and farm work so the damage seen would suggest this example was used and dates from the 1930's.
