German S98/05 Pattern Sawback Removed Bayonet. Mauser Marked Blade and Scabbard.
One of the 60,000 sawback bayonets produced by the Mauser firm. This very nice example has had the sawback removed with the blade in close to perfect condition with sharp makers details to the top of the blade and the spine having clear details including a 1916 date. The cross guard and pommel have taken on a dark patina, flash guard has some minor knocks as usually found on these WW1 period items, top button in working order and a clear inspection mark can be found to the top. Wooden grips are nice with minor bruising and one minor crack near the back screw. The steel scabbard has all its factory finish except for under the leather frog and is a matching marked Mauser produced example. The frog is a very nice period example, supple with tight stitching and clear makers details for a firm from Berlin, some one has scratched there name to the back. All in all a very nice example and even better being a matching set!
