Matching Numbered K98 Bayonet and Leather Frog.
A well used example with the blade having bright finish, some staining and two round water marks to the surface. Blade tip is fine, the ricasso has an S178 code stamp for the firm Heller, the spine is dated 37 and the other side has a clear number stamp that matches the top of the scabbard. The cross guard, flash cover and pommel have taken on a dark finish with no pitting and clear waffenampt stamps to the pommel head. One of the wooden grips has taken a good knock resulting in a crack and a small loss of wood, the other side is fine. The metal scabbard has a dark finish from storage, not sure under the frog as i have not removed it and as mentioned numbers match the bayonet. The frog is a non maker marked example, its supple with loose stitching to either side of the middle section. In my opinion this is the bayonets period example as it matches the overall condition.
