South Wales, Skewen, Father and Son Family Medals. 2nd Battalion SWB Wounded 1944, Devonshire Engineers KIA 1918.

Nice and new to the market are these medals to father and son that i have just purchased off the family.
The father was part of the Devonshire Engineers 267 company who was killed in France on the 21st of March 1918 and is commemorated on the panels of the Pozieres Memorial. His 1914/15 trio is in nice untouched condition with all three medals being named and numbered to...41 W.C.STONEMAN, R.E. SPR on his star and CPL on his other two medals.
The other medals relate to his son Walter Herbert Charles Stoneman from the Skewen area of South Wales. His pay book is complete with full details including pasted to the back his discharge certificate which states ''Ceasing to fulfil Army physical requirements''. There is a small photo of Stoneman found inside. Also included is his medal slip marked for 4 medals and a poignant letter dated October 13th informing mother/wife that Walter was wounded on the 4th of October but no other info is known at the present time. All medals are in nice untouched condition and also included is his nice SWB cap badge.
Now im no researcher but from what i can gather Walter landed at Normandy 7 days after D-Day part of the 2nd Battalion SWB fighting his way up through Normandy then Belgium. The 2nd was then attached to the 49th West Riding Infantry Division for a push to secure the Scheldt Estuary. The date of his wound October 4th would suggest being hit during the push from Turnhout to Tilburg but this is all my guess work, further research im sure is possible. When i purchased this set from the daughter of Walter junior she stated he was hit in the elbow! I may add that if the daughter returns with the fathers death plaque i shall indeed contact the new owner.
