1943 Dated British MKII Army Helmet.

The shell retains close to 95% of its period army green finish with a certain amount of dark patina. The inside 1943 dated liner has seen plenty of use, its complete with a clear makers mark and date. This helmet is interesting as it began life with a complete coat of black finish so factory manufactured as a home front rescue helmet. Its my opinion that it never left the factory but was reissued at source with an addition of the Army green paint with fine ''grit'' to the outer shell as the green paint is not hand painted but a professional factory spray. The shell as the liner is dated 43 with both chinstrap bales dated 1942. An interesting example as i do find lots of black home front helmets that where once early army helmets but not the other way round. The 1943 date would suggest a time when orders for Army helmets overtook home front needs at factory level.
