1887 Pattern Martini Henry Bayonet. 2nd Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders.
A very nice unit marked Wilkinson manufactured Martini Henry Bayonet and Leather Frog. The blade has minimal staining and one tiny water mark from the blade resting against the inside scabbard runner for such a long time. Blade has its factory edge with clear markings found to both sides. The date is 1889 so would fit in nice with the Boer War period and the 2nd battalion served in a number of actions during its service in South Africa. The cross guard and pommel again with minimal staining , top fixing button works and both leather grip plates are undamaged with just some sharpness gone to the cross hatch from use. The leather scabbard is supple with tight stitching and both brass ends are in fine condition with both having the same date marks. The very nice leather frog again in fine supple condition with a supple fastening cross strap. The back has very nice and clear stamps to the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders. Even with this bayonet being in such a very nice condition its even better having Volunteer unit marking to ID the Regimental use.
