WW2 Royal Navy Casualty Medal Group, Petty Officer T.Weeks. 1939 Operation ''Royal Marine'' D.S.M.
The group comprises the following medals found in his named box with casualty slip, 1939/45, Atlantic stars with the War medal. The box is named and addressed to his widow, M.L.Paige, who subsequently remarried, Commonwealth Graves entry shows his wife as May Lily Weeks of the same address, also states his award of the D.S.M. Accompanied by a quantity of interwar period shooting medals won by Weeks, one named but all won by him. I have a copy document showing Weeks winning the Bell medal in 1924 when a crew member of HMS-Cardiff. Lastly is a prewar sew on French Maginot line cap badge.
Weeks won his D.S.M. during the the 1939 naval Operation ''Royal Marine'' commanded by G.R.S.Wellby, the mining of French rivers on the border of Germany. Weeks and fellow naval personal where based at ''Linge Maginot'' about 5 miles from the River Rhine , depositing mines that would flow downstream towards Karlsruhe. The resulting mission did cause damage and delay to river traffic in the area, two officers where awarded D.S.C's with ten D.S.M's awarded to other ranks,Weeks being one of them. Weeks was killed on the 27th of April, 1941 whilst arming mines in the Aldeburgh area of Suffolk with three others and is buried at Portsmouth. I have a number of copy documents relating to Weeks with all details of his career in the Royal navy and his death, including a copy of the July 1940 Gazette with Weeks award details for the D.S.M. that will be forwarded with the medals and shooting badges.
Lastly let me add that no D.S.M. found with the group!
