RAF 1941 Pattern Mae West. ''Flap Type''.
This early 41 pattern Mae West has stamped to the inside label ''Flap Type'' , either the flap has been removed or was never added as these flaps where thought to hinder pilots when escaping the cockpit in an emergency or when ditching into the sea as the flap might get wrapped around the head resulting in the drowning of the crew member. The condition is very good with slight storage marks and minor ink spotting from the stenciled numbers to the inside. Both grab handles are present as are all the period buttons and leg straps. Back neck zip is ''AM'' marked and fully working. Nothing missing from this period example. This item was recently found in an old collection, the pocket snaps have not been opened in years, the material is not pulled, im not going to try and open then leaving this to the new owner if they wish to try! There is a plastic Acme Whistle hanging from the Whistle loop, not sure its period neither is the old time collector, its as he found it many years ago and its as you find it now. Here's a chance to add a rather scarce RAF item to your collection.
