Super little lot from a local house clearance in the Cardiff area many years ago. Group consists of a very special hand drawn map on a field postcard of an area around Hebuterne and Serre on the 20/6/16 just after the British battle of Hebuterne. Map shows the British and German lines with standout areas of interest such as ''Seven Sisters, Sunken road, the Xmas Tree and a number of machine gun emplacements. Our chap in the group photo, middle with stripe, was attached to a machine gun unit at the time. This area was an important sector during the Somme offensive less than a month later. The three photos found have clear detail with one chap having details of his death in France, August 27/1916. Also found was 23/7/16 dated signal message from the Commander in Chief congratulating the Australians and British 48th Division on their fine work. This must relate to the Battle of Pozieres as both the Australians and Gloucester Regiment, part of the 48th, took part, and of course the dates match with the telegram. Super little lot with loads of potential research and perfect for any Gloucester and Somme related collector, historian.
