British WW1 Women's Army Forage Corps Document and Photo Group and Early War Graves Photo Album, King and Queen Visit. Abergavenny Interest.
A very nice grouping of documents and photos of a lady who served in the Women's forage Corps in WW1. There are four official documents related to her service and her Certificate of discharge. With this comes some fascinating photos of Miss Wenham, if your into uniforms of the period, wearing her WAFC outfit , all annotated to the rear with details by her daughter. In my opinion the best is the larger photo showing a squad of soldiers bailing hay using a large WD marked steam tractor with Miss Wenham in the middle, obviously in charge of the group. To add to this interesting grouping is a full photo album containing photos of numerous war graves she visited in the early 1920's including a number of shots of King George and Queen Mary at one site. Also included are a few shots of the I.W.G.C. administration camp. The grave sites visited and photographed are....Terlincthun, Longuengesse, Cinq Rues, Brre, Poperinghe, Vlamertinghe, Dud corner , La Chaudiere, Arras Road, Ecoivres, Euston Road, Courcelles au Bois, Bertrancourt, Lovencourt, Acheus, Forceville, a number of more are listed. 45 pictures in total. A very interesting group not only from the WAFC angle but also from the point of the British War Cemeteries, when they where overhauled especially for the King and Queens visit. Miss Wenham moved in the 20's to Abergavenny and married a local officer from the RFC, dying in 1955.
