Lee Metford 1888 Pattern ''Volunteer'' Bayonet.
Non maker marked volunteer issued 1888 pattern bayonet thats in untouched condition always sitting in it unmarked brown leather frog. The 98 dated blade has a certain amount of staining from storage, what markings to be found are clear. Again the hilt has most of its finish but with a certain amount of staining. The wooden grips are clean without staining or damage. Pommel has a rack number 433 tamped to one side, this matches the number found on the top of the scabbard throat. The scabbard has tight stitching and is supple. The leather frog again in untouched condition with just slight wear to the leather closing strap. Nice to find a completely untouched example thats always been together.
