Victorian Bowie Knife. ''The Hunters Companion''. J.Dobby, 16 Wych Street.
A very nice bowie knife marked ''the Hunters Companion'' and makers details to a J.Dobby , 16 Wych Street. The 7.5 inch blade has minimal staining and quite a bit of its buffed grain remaining, cutting edge has had a slight sharpening. The stamped details along the top of the blade on one side are clear enough to make out the details. Im not sure if there was another mark running under the cross guard but cannot make it out if it was ever there? Nickle type mounts are in nice condition as is the stag handle, no chips or cracks. Total length of this Bowie is 12 inches in length. Its period leather scabbard is in nice supple condition with nickle type mounts, bottom chape has some knocks. A very nice example in my opinion folks. I may add that there is no info i can find on J.Dobby but i did find listed a Mrs Dobby under ''cutler'' at the exact address in Wych Street, London in the 1870's.
