Rare British WW1 Medical Orderly's Field Dressings Side Satchel Bag.
Now here is a rare beast being the satchel used for field dressing by the RAMC. Condition in my opinion is nice considering its age with some staining and a faded central ''Red Cross'', sorry but cannot make out the writing above the cross. Both fixing leather front straps are in strong supple condition, some fraying to the leather trim and a complete cloth hanging strap. I did manage to find one example on the ''Imperial War Museum'' website and a couple of period photos of RAMC soldier carrying them on the Western Front. Great photo of a very similar satchel on page 229 of the outstanding book ''uniforms and equipment, a study in photographs'' by Stephen Chambers.
