WW1 Paper Work Group with German Souvenir Collector Letter.
Group consists of four items being a complete WW1 ''French for the Troops'' by Captain W.G.Hartog, full of military terms and useful phrases for any Brit Trooper in France. A complete 1915 dated ''Notes from the Front'' part III. The third document is a Rifleman Hartley's discharge certificate with all relevant information regarding service, wounded with severe wound to wrist. Lastly we have a single letter written in pencil on ''Church Army Recreation Hut'' note paper written by a private Ashford of the 1st London Regiment written to his mother from France with some nice detail including a box sent home with a watch he had taken off a German soldier with two helmet plates, one Prussian the other Bavarian, apparently he chucked the helmets away!! With luck this letter comes with a typed copy of the information written in the letter as the pencil writing has faded. Anyway i must be honest and mention i have kept this little group together for many years as i have always found the letter interesting with the mention of German souvenirs being picked up by Brit soldiers and believed all belonged to the same soldier. Going through the information after taking the photos they are from two different soldiers. Im selling as one lot as i found them folks, im sure someone out there would like to give them a new home!
