RAF KIA Condolance Scroll, Sergeant Taylor, Cardiff.

The scroll is made out to Sergeant L.A.Taylor who was killed on the 26/7/1943 when his Hadley Page bomber, serial number HR934, was presumed lost over the Dutch coast. He was part of an operation to attack Essen with 705 aircraft, 26 where lost. This action was deemed a success with the Krupp works facility being dealt the worst blow of the war. The scroll comes with its period delivery envelope named and addressed to his wife. Also found is a poignant letter from the Air Ministry , dated 1952, informing his wife that they believe her husband is buried in the Bergan Cemetery next to the only other identified crew member, Flying Officer Cole, who was washed ashore on the Dutch coast. The accompanying photo is of Leslie with his wife Katherine in happier times, he in his RAF uniform and his wife wearing an RAF sweetheart, this sweetheart was also found in the lot, damaged but when do we get to find a sweetheart with proof of actual wearing during the time!! Lastly we have a uniform removed Air Gunner flat wing, perhaps Taylor qualified during training! Also comes with two CWGC booklets sent to the family. This little set was purchased by me last week from a female relative who lives in the Newport area. She also provided me with her fathers pay book who joined the Royal Horse Guards in 1944, its a replacement so very little info inside but i presume he went through Europe during the invasion. The photos in my opinion relate to his service in early postwar Germany during occupation duties. The seller did mention that Katherine remarried so there is a difference in sir names. Nice local set new to the market and im sure worthy of further research if thats your ''bag''.
