Period Photos of King George and Queen Elizabeth Visit to the Orb Iron Works Newport, 1944.

These 14 period photos recently turned up from a house clearance firm who have the contract with the family of P.R.Perry who in 1944 was the Assistant General Manager of the Orb Steel Works in Newport, South Wales who produced 20mm cartridge cases. I was lucky enough to have purchased a large grouping from the estate, these 14 are doubles and surplus to requirements. A number have back stamps to the Newport photography studios of Alfred Day, some stamped Ministry of Information and dated 1944. I have found that a number of the photos in the grouping where used for the 1944 Souvenir publication to commemorate the Royal visit including the very nice Honour Guard of the local Home Guard unit which is part of this lot of photos. A nice piece of local and social history folks.
Please note that the last two photos are the items from the Perry family that i have kept for my own collection and are being posted to give you an idea of where the 14 photos came from.
