Quirky little item being this Victorian match box and contents. Condition as expected is ''good'' with detail still remaining to the outside. Inside can be found a number of period matches. Mathew Webb was a renowned swimmer of his time being the first to swim the English channel in 1875. His early life was involved with the sea training at age 12 aboard HMS Conway and having a career in the merchant navy, he was also awarded the Stanhope medal for saving a life at sea. Way too much of Webb's Life for me to mention but a great article on Wikipedia for you to check out. Neat little item and great for displaying with your Victorian gear.
