Royal Navy Officers 1827 Pattern Sword, Carrier and Belt. Wilkinson. Lt -Rowland, HMS Plymouth.
Elizabeth 2nd sword by the firm Wilkinson issued to Lt B.W.R.Rowland who, according to his wife, served on HMS Plymouth and HMS Berwick. The sword is numbered to the spine so research is possible. Condition is very nice and untouched kept by the widow in its carry case for a number of years, purchase from her a couple of days ago. The etched blade is nice but has suffered lightly for storage with some minor bleed to the surface and a couple of small areas into the metal, i believe this will clean up. The etching to both sides is sharp and clear without fade and retaining its grey background, this included the Wilkinson trade mark etc. Lion head handle and basket have not been cleaned for a number of years and shows a certain amount of old polish residue as seen in the photos, shark skin handle without damage. Attached bullion knot is nice with a certain amount of tarnish. The leather scabbard has tight stitching and without knocks or dents, again brass mounts with plenty pf patina from not being cleaned for many years. The widow also brought along her husbands sword belt, complete and in nice condition. A very nice numbered example with family details of the Naval officer, Rowland was born in Kent in 1942, serving on HMS Berwick and HMS Plymouth, perhaps serving on Plymouth during the Falklands campaign when it was attacked and hit numerous time by Argentine jets!
