This bayonet recently came my way from a lady who recently cleared her now deceased Grandfathers house, also found was the 07 bayonet ive just listed, item 62401. The VR 1890 date stamped blade is in nice clean condition with some slight staining only and perhaps minimal sharpening the cutting edges. A WD stamp and two facing broad arrow ''out of service'' stamps can be found to the other side. Cross guard and pommel has some staining and just a slight pattern of surface bleed, top fixing button works. Wooden slab grips has some staining , one good knock and some bruising. Complete Leather scabbard seems rather thin from use and will bend when bayonet withdrawn and has some repairs to the back seam, not sure on the time frame of the repair but i would guess its quite some time as scabbard and stitching has taken on that oily feel when items have been stored in a garage etc. The unmarked Victorian general pattern frog has survived in better condition with supple body, supple fixing strap and only loosing the stitching to the top belt area. So can i use the term untouched as found in the heading? I believe so even with the scabbard seam being repaired its my opinion this rig has never been apart! Of course i have not cleaned in any way!!
