1942 Dated Sniper Spotting Scope Tripod, Attributed Northumberland Fusiliers.

The scope is in nice condition with most of its period army green finish intact, of course there are a number of scratches to the finish as would be expected and the removal of the finish where the date was found. Please expect some slight rust bleed with the hole item covered in oil and grease. All legs and tightening screws work smoothly. There can be found around the date a number of stamps but im sorry to say i cannot make them out. This type of tripod looks like the Canadian No14, no Canadian marks can be seen! This belongs to a friend of mine who purchased it in the many years ago from a tiny little Abergavenny militaria shop that all us local collecting nuts use to frequent and hang about. Well the story goes during one of his visits an elderly gent walked in and sold some snipers kit he owned, according to the shop owner the gent often did when he needed a bit of cash. My friend had a conversation with the gent when purchasing the tripod and it turns out he was a sniper in WW2 for the Northumberland Fusiliers and this was his actual tripod, he also stated he also used it during his time in Korea! Anyway folks please buy the tripod before the story but if your really interested he did give his details as RSM Pettiford at this time living in the Crickhowell area.
