US Ballistic Helmet. PASGT, Gibraltar Industries/ Gentex.

A well used early production combat lid by the firm Gibraltar Industries, dating this to the middle 80's. This example has been hand painted black over the original well used green rough finish, this rough finish has lots of scrapes and missing sections. Comes with a woodland cover. The inside liner system is complete but having a three side snaps missing to the leather sweatband. Half of the chinstrap is present but both bolts missing. Inside is a clear details stamp and a clear Gentex mold stamp to the inside crown and L1 for large. Apparently Gibraltar Industries had a few problems and either had Gentex supply the lid itself or used Gentex molds. Not a complete helmet but nothing that cannot be restored with three band snaps, two side bolts and half chinstrap, easy to find on the net. Nice to find such an early and smaller production numbers lid and having come from one of those American Airbase ''Garage sales'' that happen from time to time in the UK.
