U.S.Navy Vietnam Zippo Lighter, USS Vancouver. Deckhouse Operations. 1966/67.

A very nice period Zippo lighter as used by a member of USS Vancouver during Operations in Vietnam from 1966 to 67. The ship had a very long operational service life during the Vietnam war serving from 1965 taking part in the first landings of American troops in Vietnam landing them on Red Beach. Her last operation after many years in Vietnam was 1974. The lighter appears to be a souvenir of her operations during the years 66 and 65 where she participated in Operation Deckhouse III to VI where she undertook amphibious landings of US Marines up and down the coastline. Reading the ships history is very interesting to say the least. The condition of the lighter is what i would call lightly used and does match known period examples with the etching, Zippo naming and stamps to the bottom and instructions on the inner lighter itself.
