American M1, Medical, Helmet Liner Shell.
Westinghouse produced liner with the fittings dating from around 1943/44. Webbing straps are in perfect condition, neck band is maker marked. The shell at one point had three large Red Crosses painted to the outside , one to the front and two to the sides, these have been painted over with a drab green overcoat. The crosses are very visible as there is a good amount cracking to the paint. Someone at one point tried to remove the overcoat but decided to stop.
WW2 Belgium Miniature Medal Group.
A very nice mounted group of miniature medals to a well decorated Belgium WW2 veteran. Condition is very good.
Japanese Flag, 42x27 Inches.
Signed meatball thats in very nice condition, silk body has survived without moth damage, the leather tie corners are complete with the strings, the silk is fragile around the leather so i doubt you can fly this in a strong wind off a palm tree!!
Bulgarian Infantry Badge of Honour.
Other ranks version with good detail and all its finish, top enamel has no damage. The rear has lost its plate but still has its rear fastening washer.
Stalag 18 British POW,Royal Armoured Corps, Captur
Interesting little group of items that belonged to a former POW who was captured at Dunkirk and spent time at Stalag 18, Nickelsdorf. Included in this grouping is his pay book thats in very nice condition but as expected from a POW there are not many detailed enteries, also a very nice Christmas menu for room 12 dated 1942, his name is one of many going around the outside of the menu, the back has all his mates names written in pencil. A letter from his local School Comforts Fund in Quakers Yard dated 43 to his mother with a donation of money for her son. His two entitlement medals and a good quantity of photos taken during his time at Stalag18.
WW1 Nurses Hospital Patients Autograph Book.
Compiled for a Nurse Jones in Salisbury infirmary Radnor wing and filled with well over a hundred sentiments from recovering soldiers from all over the commonwealth. Some great drawings and paintings and of course some saucy and racist notes, this has to be the best example ive managed to offer. Condition is complete and in very nice condition. May i add that ive uploaded 20 images of the content but thats nowhere near the history you will find amongst these pages.
1916 Comic Book, An Alphabet From The Trenches.
Produced by two officers from the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment. All pages are present and the front cover is complete with some damage running across the top spine, other than that its in nice condition.
WW1 Nurses Hospital Patients Autograph Book.
Large book,over 70 pages, filled with autographs,sentiments,ditties, drawings and poems done by recovering soldiers for a nurse Dolly Fawcett who worked at Greylingwell hospital. Very interesting piece of WW1 history with research possible on the wounded from diffrent regiments and from diffrent corners of the world. A very interesting capture of a slice of time with the soldiers writtings and sentiments being funny, saucy,poignant and sometimes racist. This example has had some damage over time with the front cover adrift but the inside pages have survived intact and in good condition.
1917 Dated Childs Book, Tanks In Action. Tank Corp
The books condition is used, complete, with the central pages coming adrift from the spine staples, one page has some child scribbles. The sentiment to the inside is quite poignant as the details relate to a tank corps member who was KIA in 1917, the father of the child this book was given to. So the condition of the book is not ''just of the shelf'' but if wanting one you know was given out and loved by a child of the Great War then this might well fit the bill. I have not researched Cpl W.G.Haynes having just picked this up in my local flee market last week.
HMS Glorious KIA Paperwork and Medals. Newport ,So
Small lot that relates to the death of Ordinary Seaman Bernard Rowan who went down with the aircraft carrier HMS Glorious in 1940, sunk during action in the North Sea against the German Battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. The papers include the 1940 dated telegram sent to his mother stating he is missing perhaps a POW, a 1950 dated telegram relating sympathy to his mother on the death of her son, a 1948 dated document on medal entitlment and how to claim, a 1942 document from the Inspector of Naval Wills and Rowans medal slip and two medals i pressume the one missing is the War Medal. During the action quite a few Newport lads lost there lives, British ships apparently had no time to pick up survivors, the authorities presumed that the German navy might well have tried and if so the survivors would be held in a POW camp, by 1950 it was evident they were lost at sea.
