HJ/DJ Leaders Document Group, KIA First Day of Ope
A very nice group of pre-war documents to a DJ leader Armin Barkman. Member of DJ unit 188, Hamburg area. 1/ Early pattern Leistungsbuch, HJ proficency booklet....Has his date of birth as 19/6/20, joining the DJ in 1933. Number of pages filled in with his sports record for the proficency badge, he was awarded the Bronze grade in 9/9/1938, first entery in the book dated 12/7/1935. This book has no photograph and it does not look as if one was ever pasted in. 2/ Mitglieds Ausweis fur das Deutsche Jungvolk in der Hitler Jugend, Outside cover is in very nice condition with Gebiet 6 stamp, inside has an early younger photo of Barkmann wearing his brown DJ shirt, full details to the inside including his DJ service number, to the rear there is a full page of payment stamps. 3/ Versicherungskarte (Health Insurance Card) , named and the back has a full issue of payment stamps. 4/ Two promotion Documents, one from 1936 promoting him to ''Jungenschaftsfuhrer'' and the second dated 1937 promoting him to ''Jungzugfuhrer'', both with Gebiet 6 stamps. 5/ Large original photograph of Barkmann and friend as DJ leaders during a stay at a ''Lager'', camp. Barkmann is the large fellow on the left. Nice uniform detail of what a DJ leader would wear, including the black cap as held by his friend. Photo is larger that postcard size. 6/ Two very nice and quite scarse Lagerausweis to eventsheld in Tahlenburg, Cuxhaven, 1935 and 1936. 7/ Confirmation document for the recipt of his Bronze Sports badge, dated 9/9/1938. Interestingly there is a list of badges etc and there prices, Barkmann paid for 3 items. Looks as if the HJ members had to pay for there awards!!! 8/ Last document seems to be his Reichspost Identity card, again giving a very full and detailed discription of the lad. 9/ To finish this grouping ther is his original DJ Fahnlein 188 early chain stitched shoulder board as seen in the photo, this has the nice addition of being monted for wear on his shirt b a large ''popper'', easy to remove from uniform shirt for washing. Some research by the previous collector has found out that Barkmann was killed in action during the first day of operation Barbarose, 22/6/41, the invasion of Russia. He is buried near Greiszohnen, Tilsit. More research also found his name on a memorial stone at his local High school that was erected for local lads who never returned from the War. Super little grouping too one boy who never made it back from fighting for his country.
Mein Kampf, Feldpost Version.
This printing of Hitler ''Mein Kampf'' is know as a field post version and was produced in such a size that it could be posted and carried by German Military persons on the front line. The cardboard outer is in very good but used condition, its complete. However the copy of the book itself looks to have never been handled, super condition with no issues, printed in 1940. Did front line troops ever read these ?? well if not then the paper would of course be very handy in an emergency.
German Souvenir Shrapnel Letter Opener, 1942 Krim.
Super field made letter opener fashioned from a large piece of shrapnel, the blade being ground out from the main body. The letters AH have been inlaid to the handle area in a very professional manner. The blade has the legend ' 'KRIM 1942 '' etched to one side. Just the type of item produced at the rear areas, perhaps for an officer.
First Pattern Denison Smock.
1942 dated example thats in very nice condition with bright colours and no damage to the material, no snags, pulls or moth. The cuffs again in very nice condition with no moth damage. All brass Newey poppers are present and in working order and the neck area has not suffered from over use. Clear label to the inside dated 1942 and to the firm CWS Ltd, a good large size7. Now for a couple of issues, the tail has been removed, quite a few eamples found this way as the tail on first patters could not be fied to the inside, the zip is a replacement, looks like a 70 military one thats been fied in a sloppy manner. So it needs a new zip only and with the condition and bright colour its not a bad smock fro anyones collection.
WW2 Royal Engineers 1940 Pattern Battle Dress.
A very nice originally badged BD to a member of the RE who served in France. All insignis are machine sewn , and ''sink'' in well to the material. The brass flaming bombs to the arms have 7 flames as expected from RE insignia. Ive been over the whole item and i cannot find any moth nips or tracking, the inside label is dirty but the date looks like 1941 but to me its 1944. Nice to find an unmessed with example these days.
WW1 British Officers Trench Boots.
These have survived in very nice condition with only one leather strap missing . The leather bottoms are in very supple condition with hob nailed leather soles, there are no cracks to the soles, both cross over leather straps are present and in very nice condition. No size markings but they measure 12 inches from heel to toe. The canvas uppers are again in sound condition without any tears or scuffs. The canvas is quite supple with only minor hardening to the centre but there are no cracks or holes to the creases, the left boot has lost its top leather strap. The inside cloth pulls are present and both have a 4 digit service number to the inside. I have managed to find a period photo of a British officer wearing such an example in France , check the last photo please.
1944 Dated Denison Smock.
This example has come back in to me this week. Its a very nice and clean 1944 dated smock, super bright colours with very little ware to the material. All brass newely poppers are in working condition, both bottom adjusting straps are complete, minor fray to the material underneath from both straps having been closed over for many years. The zip is in working condition but is frail, some teeth missing, i have managed, since selling this item, to purchase a full WW2 ''swift'' zip with camo backing material, this will be sent out with the smock . There is minor fraying to the sleeve areas, i mean minor and just a couple of stains from storage. The tail has been period removed as is sometimes found on these examples, dont forget, not only Paras were issued these smocks! Inside has a very clear makers label for the firm Henry Brown and of course has the great dated 1944 and its a large size 6. As mentioned in my previous listing of this garment, it was found locally by a young couple when they purchased there first house in Cardiff last year.
British 1919 Pattern Haversack.
Condition as expected from what appears to be an unissued item is very nice indeed, no damage just the usual storage marks, and i mean minimal, its dated 1934 and MECo marked to the inside flap, added bonus is the remaining one strap fastened to the underneath. I doubt if you will be able to upgrade this item.
