WW2 Japanese Rabbit Ear Optics and Canvas Carry Ba
The ''rabbit ears'' has most of its factory black finish, most of the missing paint is too the top section, the body is marked in numerous places including the maker Nikko, the body is dent free. The tripod again in very nice condition. The original webbed case is complete with carry strap, and has clear Japanese script running up the front. This set would make a very nice display item but i should mention that the optics are in need of some attention, one set does focus but has some verdigris, the other set appears to have moved inside and cannot be focused.
Named RFC Loose Leaf Note Book, 1918 Practical Fly
This nice RFC grouping belonged to 2/Lieut C.O.Thompson which includes his personal RFC loose leaf note book full of hand written notations by Thompson during his training with No 2 squadron in Hastings. Book has some nice detailed diagrams rendered in pen and pencil, notes include flyng, observation, cameras, ammo, machine guns etc, book is full. With this came a nice 1918 dated hard back book written by a serving flying officer , printed by ''War Service Manuals'' before hostilities ceased. Book is complete and a very interesting read. Seven large black and white photos of France, buildings and trenches ,all wartime, were also found with the grouping also included are his his 2 medal boxes and the envelope they were sent in, alas no medals. Interesting and rare RFC paperwork.
WW1 Bovril Booklet, Handy-Book & Diary Of The War.
Small booklet prodused by the Bovril company to advertise there product in a magazine which places the major events of WW1 from 1914 till July 1917, no events after July so booklet produced prior to the end of the conflict. Condition is very good with the only damage being a tiny corner missing from one page.
British 1944 Dated Map, Cassino.
A well used 1944 dated map of the Cassino area with markings drawn on showing the operational areas were certain forces were on the morning of May 11th, including Polish,British and French. The back has a certain amount of gum strip which has kept the map together over the years. Interesting bit of history.
WW2 Boxed Hitler Youth Maching Compass, Marsch-Kom
In very nice lightly used condition this compass still has its original lanyard with complete titled carton, full markings to the bottom of the compass and the expected DRGM mark. Of interest is that the boy scratched his name, town , area and date to the bottom.
Kriegsmarine Dagger, Horster.
This is an untouched example recently brought into the shop by a 70 year old gent, more on that later. The dagger has all the hallmarks of never been ''pimped'' by anyone. The handle has lost most of its wire but there are no cracks or chips, the brass pommel and crossguard have most of its factory finish, its taken on patina from age, the original knott has bedded itself in with no chance of removal, some fraying but complete and strong. The blade has a clear Horster makers mark to the tang and a very nice sailing ship design running down its length, it has some minor spotting near the tang, it has its original tip. The scabbard has it original wash with some rubbing down to the brass body, no knocks and both hanging loops are present. Now for the story! The gents parents use to run a boarding house on Cardiff docks during the 40's, this dagger was found left in one of the rooms after a sailor had left. This has not been in a collection before and im sure the ''look'' of ths dagger will confirm this. Ive been told to rewire the handle but i like it as it is, well thats just me! FOR SALE TO OVER 18's AND UK ONLY!
1916 Official Map, Battle of the Somme.
Still held in its original paper sleeve, this paper map has survived in nice condition considering its nearly 100 years old. The paper sleeve has some damage but the map is in complete condition, as expected the fold middles have some tears. The map is dated 1916 and shows the front line ending on November 30, it appears to have been printed by the General Staff War Office. Its my opinion that these maps were used to train the many new Officers being rushed thru training for the next bloody phase of the Somme battle.
