Victorian 1st East York Volunteer Artillery Light

Victorian 1st East York Volunteer Artillery Light

In very nice condition with crisp etching to both sides of the blade, retailed by the London firm of Hobson and Sons. The shark skin bound grip has no damage, same with the Hilt. Still attatched is the period leather knot with bullion acorn. As mentioned the blade has crisp etching to both sides with a Victorian coat of arms. There is minor staining to a very small percentage of the blade with one lift of finish just below one scroll which i have photographed. I have not cleaned or touched the blade. The scabbard again in tip top condition with no issues. Just to add, there appears to be scrolled initials to the bottom of the blade which i cannot decipher, i pressume this is the officers name, so reaserch might well be possible.

Large Edwardian Pocket Knife, Cardiff Cutler.

Large Edwardian Pocket Knife, Cardiff Cutler.

A scarse example by a Cardiff cutler called Staniforth, its in very nice condition with no knocks to the metal grips, blade is clean with clear makers details. Staniforth made surgical instruments and the usual knives and forks, i have seen only one other item for sale that being a naval clasp knife, perhaps being the size it is this might well be another naval pocket knife. For size comparison i have taken a shot of this knife with a normal clasp knife.

Polish WZ-55 Paratroopers Fighting Knife.

In very clean condition, dated 1955 on one side of the blade and the other has its issue number, does not match the number on the scabbard. Only small issue is the factory edge on the blade was rather sloppy and ran across the clip point.

WW1 Combat Helmet.

WW1 Combat Helmet.

The outer shell retains a very good amount of its original factory finish with the patina having toned and blended into the finish, id say well over 80% remaining. The inside has more patina with a good mix of original finish. Shell is dent free. The all leather liner system has seen better days with the band being complete as are two of the liner tounges, one has come adrift from the leather ring, no pads present. The chistrap is present but broken from one end and missing its fixing bail, both buckles present. The helmet is maker marked Si 62 to the side and has a number stamp to the crown. Displays very well from all angles.

This example has been opened but all contents are intact except for the safety pin. The gloves packet is complete as is the field dressing, the burn jelly is full and kept in its original cardboard sleeve. The box containing the ampules syringes is again in very nice original condition with both inside syringes intact, the morphia tubes have been emptied of there contents. This is a Royal Navy example and contents are dated 1944.

RAF B Type Flying Helmet, 1938 Dated.

RAF B Type Flying Helmet, 1938 Dated.

Condition is good ''used'' with no rips to the leather body, its supple and has the back strap with bennet buckle, thought this is missing its leather covering, all snaps are present but has verdigris, long strap present but the clouser buckle is missing, this has been cut off. The ear cups have both zips, one has been sewn down at the zip end, the other is complete but i have not tried to open, no recivers present, i have filled both ear cups with news paper. The inside again in good condition with one small rip to the material, clear large makers label to the inside crown area with a 1938 date, this has a mark going thru it and a very faint 1941 date added, it has a clear size mark. So its in good condition with pleanty of display appeal and priced accordingly.

Bavarian Cavalry Military Stein

Bavarian Cavalry Military Stein

Bavarian cavalry service stein in very good+ condition, has no damage to the body or paint loss. The body has a very nice detailed image of cavalry troopers on the attack and during patrols, has the names of the unit members down each side and the Bavarian coat of arms to the front, inside at the bottom when held to the light an image can be seen. This Stein measure 14 inches in height. The only issue found is the missing lead cavalry man to the top lid, pity but this is reflected in the price. ITEM WAS £235......

WW2 Uniform Grouping, Royal Armored Corps, Gordon

WW2 Uniform Grouping, Royal Armored Corps, Gordon

This lot was found recently in the loft of a Cardiff house that was recently purchased by the owner who brought his into the shop. The name of the officer is R.L.Surrell who past out of officer training at Sandhurst in 1943. Going by his ribbon bars he served in Italy and Tripoli ending a long service as Lietenant Colonel in the 90's. He was awarded the OBE in 1975. This group has his RAC service jacket, named and dated 1943, couple of moth holes. Both Battle Dress are wartime, one has been stripped, signs of this can be seen on the arms, of course its been tailored for an officer, condition is very good with no moth. The second BD has a Gordons flash across the top arms, its an Australian made item thats been tailored by having the neck opened, pleats down the back and shortened. It also looks as if certain Div signs have been removed, its has some moth damage. The khaki trousers and shorts are in good condtion with no moth. The 3 large photos show Spurrell as a boy in 39 in his school cricket team, passing out of training in the RAC and lastly as a member of the Gordons. There are well over 150 photos of his time in Tripoli, mainly military themed. Aslo present are his two cricket caps, one dated 38 the other 37, a fox head pennant and a red arm band. Im sure research is possible on this long serving member of the British army.
