Lee Metford 1888 Pattern ''Volunteer'' Bayonet, Mole Maker. Royal Irish Regiment.
A ''sleepy'' example that has always been together in my opinion. The ''Mole'' marked blade has its factory cutting edge without other sharpening and has minimal staining with slight knocks to the edges, hard to see. The blade has close to all its period factory finish intact with a minor sharpening to the cutting edge, hardly noticeable in the photos. One side is stamped to the firm Elite Diamant with the other having a clear number stamp 5171, both these correspond to matching stamps on the scabbard including the date 40 found on the spine of the blade. 1944 Dated Australian Slouch Hat with Parachute Cargo Chord Puggaree.
I would suggest that this example has been worn but light service wear. The felt body has one good moth nip to the top area on one side but this has not gone through, you might find a couple of very light track marks but nothing that stands out, inside again just some minor track marks. In very nice condition with no chips or cracks to the body, working dial and a clear ''cxn'' makers stamp. Missing its hanging chord. In very nice condition with no moth damage and fray free to the long cotton tape. Tape measures 14 inches with the complete length being just over 18.5 inches. It has been used for sure so expect some slight staining folks. read more
